Unlike the articles on this site, Raw is me talking about my photography practice and showing you the raw materials and the processes that help me decide what images to make.

I give up some insights and discuss what works and what didn’t with the images made on the day.

From time to time, I do Crit sessions with other creatives. I use Bloom’s Taxonomy to evaluate and analyse the work, what things I’d change, etc., so where this has happened, I’ll add it here.

The images in this section have very little post-production work on them, so they may look rough. Where a shoot has resulted in something that I think will make a good print or submission, it will appear, fully polished in the Gallery

Exploring Woodland Photography in Kings Wood

Today, I am on a scouting trip. Looking to make pictures in ancient woodland near Ashford in Kent. I’ve longed to go out with the camera all week and decided that a woodland setting would be the best today, especially since I did not get up early. By the time I set out in the car, it was nearly midday, and the force was strong with the midday sun.

Saxon Shore Way

Turner Contemporary, Margate

Wow, what an unexpected bonus today was. Walking today was limited, but it really wasn’t the reason for the trip. It was to visit the Turner Contemporary gallery to see the exhibition The Tourists: Ellen Harvey & JMW Turner, and the very excellent Ashes by Steve McQueen. The location today, the beach at Margate, a stretch in front of the gallery which is the site of Anthony Gormley’s Another Time installation.
